I felt a little worn out yesterday so I didn’t get much work done. Actually, worn out isn’t quite accurate. I didn’t feel tired, I just felt lazy. I should have done some writing. I should have worked on my Squidoo lenses. I meant to go around visiting. That’s what I call socializing – visiting those who have visited my lenses, finding new lensmasters, chatting on Twitter, or in the various Squidoo forums, and catching up on my favorite blogs. I surely should have called my mother. I did none of that, although I was on the computer most of the day. I was reading, until I found this cool little application…
Anytime I’ve tackled something new or different, whether a new assignment at work or a new online project, I go through a period I can only describe as a state of confusion. What do I need to know? Where can I get the information? At some point, I may even feel completely inadequate. In business and education, they describe this period as a “learning curve”. I would disagree that it’s a curve at all.
I already have a busy schedule – who doesn’t? But when I add Squidoo to the mix, it gets a little crazy. Squidoo is a website that allows you to create your own lenses (web pages) about topics of interest to you. I joined in February 2009 and between this blog, Squidoo, and a few other internet projects, I’ve developed a list of sites that I need to log in to each time I sit down at the computer to work. The spreadsheet I was using to keep track of my passwords just wasn’t cutting it – a great way to store my passwords so I wouldn’t forget them, but it still took some time each day to bring up all those sites and log in. This little tool cuts all that log in time to just a few seconds.
I feel like I just moved into a new house. I just updated my blog “theme” and that’s no easy task if you have no idea what you’re doing. It still needs work but pretend I’ve just emptied the boxes and haven’t quite got the dishes actually in the cupboards yet. Just take my word for it, this blog looks very different from what it looked like earlier today. Sadly, I put this blog up over a month ago and I still had my default links hanging out for all the world to see. Not that the world has been by to visit. I did have one visitor and he couldn’t even leave a comment because I hadn’t quite figured out how to set those up.
I think comments are enabled now. I think.
