I’ll admit, I browse my email. I get so much throughout the day between work and home that it’s nearly impossible to read every word. I need to come up with a better method because…I even browse email from my own family. That’s how I missed the note about a great, little writing contest being put on by one of my mother’s favorite blogs, Dear Reader.

“A simple writing contest from the Dear Reader site I’ve been trotting out before you for months…..years. 385 little previously unpublished words…..that stuff from the heart that you write so well.”

(Of course, she had to say that last part – every writer’s biggest fan should be their mother!)

Something made me re-read that email today. Might have been the voice mail from my mom that said, “Hey, did you read that email about the contest?” (just kidding) So, I wandered my way on over to the contest page and I have to tell you it’s very intriguing. Write no more than 385 words and 1st place wins 80 books – many signed by their authors. The contest deadline is September 12th.

Eighty books for less than 385 words! Why, I wrote over 3000 words yesterday in no time flat. I could try this! My guess is not just any 385 words are going to do but for a shot at eighty books, I’m off to see if I can’t find a few special words left in my tired, little head.
